The organoid@KUL initiative unites researchers with expertise in complex 3D models of organs/tissues and related enabling technologies. This interdisciplinary platform aims at building a vibrant ecosystem of 3D organ/tissue modelling research at KU/UZ Leuven. Organoid@KUL aims at integrating interdisciplinary expertise in complex 3D organ/tissue models (organoids, (multi)organ-on-chip, …) and enabling technologies (vector technology, advanced imaging, hydrogel fabrication, microfluidics, organ-on-chip manufacturing, …) to explore (human) health and disease. By supporting this innovative 3D model research environment at KU/UZ Leuven, the initiative aims at contributing to the 3R principle to replace, reduce and refine animals in research.
The resultant collaboration will enable breakthrough innovations in the field. Through use of 3D organ/tissue models, clinical translation will be facilitated and accelerated. Organoid@KUL creates opportunities for academic and industrial collaborations both in bilateral agreements and shared funding applications.
The organoid@KUL platform is open to all researchers of KU Leuven, UZ Leuven and VIB KU Leuven, and eventually aims at connecting to other (Belgian) universities.
